The CEO of Farm Credit Illinois says they guided farmers through a record number of crop insurance claims this year.
Tom Tracy tells Brownfield they had claims on twenty times the prevent plant acres and more than double the replant claims they normally do.
“We’ve got ground with water still on it. We’ve got prevent plant acres. We’ve got corn that is a little over the knee right now, we’ve got corn that is tasseled, we’ve got corn that is drying. So, it’s just all over the board.”
He says record yields in previous year will make it easier for many of their members to make it through this challenging crop year.
“One of the blessings, and I know that might be a hard word to apply this year, is that we have had three or four years of record level crops here in Illinois that have continued to bolster those balance sheets for our farmer members.”
Farm Credit Illinois serves the southern 60 counties in Illinois.
Brownfield interviewed Tracy at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois.
